Two little letters make all the difference

I called for Allison to come downstairs because it was time to go to the bookstore. What response do I get? "I'm coming mom!". Not mommy, but "MOM". All of a sudden, I realized my baby is growing up way too fast. Why would she decide to call me mom, she's only 3 years old! I still want to be called mommy. I'm not ready to be called mom yet. Teenagers call their parents mom and dad, not 3 year olds. Since she did not come, I called again, and received the same response "I'm coming mom." Again, it just didn't sound right. While at the bookstore, I realized how much worse it could be. We met a nice 4-year old boy. A 4-year old boy who knows how to read. A four year old boy who's reading a book about dinosaurs and can read words like "Jurassic" and "tyranasaurus" (a word I can't even spell!). Alison was playing with the trains and I asked the boy if he wanted to play with the trains too, to which he replied "It's kind of babybish to play with trains." What 4 year old boy doesn't like to play with trians??? Kids are maturing way too early these days. Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled if Allison can read at age four, but I hope she still enjoys playing with trains too!

Oh so true! What is the rush for everyone? PLAY little kids, PLAY! I guess some are just ready for that earlier, but I sure hope mine can relax for a bit!
