Our Summer Travels to Maryland Day 5

On day 5 we got to act like a tourist. We drove down to Washington DC with my mom. This was the first time I actually felt like a tourist in DC since we no longer live close by. Touring DC brought back so many memories for me - both childhood and adult. We took many a field trip there during elementary school and Jeff and I enjoyed going there during college to get away from campus and all the school stress. I could have spent a week there but alas, we only had a day. We drove down and parked at Union Station. The inside was as beautiful as I had remembered it:

The only planned activity we had was a tour of the capitol building at 12:30. So we grabbed a quick bite to eat at Pizzeria Uno inside Union Station where Allison was able to make her own pizza:

After lunch is was off to the capitol. Our tour guide was quite the historian and he thoroughly enjoyed rambling on about every picture and statue that surrounded us. I just liked looking at the big picture under the dome:

I think the kids liked seeing the big building but they were quite bored with all the history talk.
After the tour was complete, we made our way down to the mall to visit the Museum of Natural History. But before we strayed too far from the capitol we took some pictures outside:

As you can tell, Daniel was not to thrilled about being held in front of the capitol for a picture, but he got over it. At the Natural History Museum, Allison's favorite thing was this picture:

Yes, that is two t-rex's eating another dinosaur. She loves the t-rex for some reason. She also enjoyed learning about the prehistoric animals:

It was quite crowded there so we decided to move on to the American History Museum. I think the kids enjoyed this one more because of the big trains and other cool things.

We also got to see part of a Disney ride. Funny how was had to travel 1000 miles to see this given that Disney World is only 120 miles from our house:

Allison also enjoyed looking at Dorothy's red slippers and Kermit the frog:

Once we finished up with the museums it was time to meet our dear friend Anne for dinner (who we haven't seen in almost 5 years!) Now I'm kicking myself because I forgot to take any pictures of us with Anne! Anne plays a very integral role in our lives. If it wasn't for her, Allison and Daniel might not exist. Jeff and I met because of her. She lived on my floor freshman year of college and worked at the front desk in Jeff's dorm. They became friends and hence Jeff and I met through her. So thank you Anne! She is now a lobbyist for Pfizer and living a completely different lifestyle than us but when we get together it's like old times again. We can't wait to see her again.

Up next...day 6 & 7...our trip to visit Jeff's dad in Bethany Beach, Delaware...to be continued...
