Our Summer Travels to Maryland - Day 10

Well here we are, Day 10. The vacation finally came to a close. It felt like we were away for weeks and we were ready to go home. I wasn't looking forward to the flying part, or the airport part, or the returning the rental car part. But somehow, we persevered with all our luggage. I'd like to give a special "thank you" to my brother-in-law who checked us in for our Southwest flight on Friday night so that we could be in group A and get seats together. We were planning on checking in while at my aunts house but her power was out so we had to find other means. Thank you Brad! In the past, I wouldn't have cared what group we were in because we have two small children and they used to let families with small children pre-board. We found out on the way to MD that this was no longer the case. Although they do allow you to board between A and B if you have kids under 4 so they didn't take away that benefit completely. Anyway, we made one last stop before heading on to the airport. We went to visit Jeff's former co-worker Joe and his wife and two boys who were kind enough to feed us lunch and let the kids run around in their yard. I didn't take any pictures, so I have none to post. After our lunch, it was off to the airport. We returned the rental car, got to the airport, waited in a long line to check our luggage, went through security, grabbed some food to bring on the plane, got on the plane and I took a deep breath. It was a pretty uneventful flight but the flight attendants were quite jovial. There was a guy on the plane who proposed to his girlfriend mid-flight. That was kinda cool, I guess. We thought Daniel would sleep during the flight because it was 5:30 and he hadn't taken a nap. Needless to say, he didn't sleep until 5 min before we were about to land at which point we had to keep him awake so he could walk off the plane himself since we had so many other things to carry. On our way out of the plane, the flight attendants asked if the kids wanted to see the cockpit. They weren't about to pass up that offer so they went in and met the pilot. The flight attendant snapped a picture:
It made for a great ending to a wonderful trip. For those of you that we were able to visit with - it was so wonderful to see you and for those of you that we missed, we hope to catch up next time. In the mean time, our guest room is always open for visitors.
