Putting Our Little One to Work

As I mentioned in a previous post, our neighborhood had its annual yard sale on Saturday. The yard sale was from 8-12 but people started showing up at 7am before the neighborhood gate was even open. We started setting up around 7:15 and it was a non-stop whirlwind of people from that point until about 10 am. I had decided a week before that this would be an excellent opportunity for Allison to set up a lemonade stand and learn a little bit about making money. Besides the fact that she had asked if she could sell lemonade recently after seeing it on her favorite cartoon Max and Ruby. She also has a friend named Alexis (her dad works with Jeff) who is 4 that wanted to sell with her. This wasn't your run of the mill, out of a can lemonade. It was fresh squeezed (yes, I squeezed many many many lemons) but that truly is the best tasting lemonade there is. Alexis came over around 8am and A&A Lemonade was open for business. They were charging 25 cents a cup. I can't tell you how many people came up and just handed them a dollar and said "I don't want any lemonade, they are just too cute." Allison was quite the saleswoman. Alexis is a bit shy, so I put her in charge of the money. Every time someone walked by, Allison yelled "Do you want some lemonade? We're selling lemonade." Needless to say, they made a few bucks - about $12 or so before the novelty wore off around 9:45am and they ran inside to play. So the first lemonade stand has come and gone. I'm sure there will be many more. Here are a couple pictures that I managed to snap amidst all the chaos of the yard sale.

Waiting for more customers

Jeff and I fared pretty well from the yard sale too. It's amazing that people will pay you money to take away stuff that you don't want anymore. Funny how that works.
