Stubborn

It was time for Allison to visit the dentist again. Since she had such a wonderful visit last time, I wasn't too stressed about it. So we went in, Allison was very friendly with the receptionists and the hygienist. She even made a picture for the hygienist. She sat in the chair and the hygienist asked if she wanted cookie dough flavor or orange flavor toothpaste. Allison picked the cookie dough which I should have known she wouldn't have liked. I should have told her to pick orange, but oh well. The dentist was able to clean 6 teeth before Allison decided she had enough. She didn't cry or whine, she simply covered her mouth with her hands and would not let go. We tried to bribe her with stickers, princess stickers at that! The hygienist also switched to the orange flavor toothpaste but to no avail. Her mouth was staying shut no matter what. Reminds me of a few weeks ago when she wouldn't take her medicine (which she never did end up taking and at the last doctor visit she still had an ear infection). So I've come to the conclusion that she is just plain stubborn. Maybe all three-year-olds are stubborn, but this is the first time I've had to deal with one since she is my first child. We left the dentist and I told her I was disappointed that she didn't let the hygienist clean her teeth. She understood but didn't seem too phased by it. She says when she is four she will let them clean her teeth because, as she told the hygienist, four-year-olds can do ANTHING, including driving a car (we got a nice laugh out of that one).
