Sometimes you just need to write things down to make you feel better. This is one of those situations. I strongly dislike (okay, HATE) the new Bank of America ATM's. I always deposit any checks I receive through the ATM. I've actually never used the drive through lanes with the tellers. I prefer to simply deal with a machine. Well, Bank of America recently changed all their ATM's so that you directly stick a check into it (no envelope or deposit slip). They claim it is better for the customer because the deposited amount will appear the same business day if deposited by 8pm. Whatever, it's just easier for them because they can employ less people since their is less work on their part. So I've had two issues while trying to deposit into one of the these new ATM's the first occurred about 4 months ago. I deposited an $800 check (reimbursement for damages from the moving company) in the ATM and the machine ate the check and did not record the deposit. Long story short, about 6 phone calls later, I had to have the moving company cancel the first check and reissue me a new check. Bank of America promised (in a letter I received) to pay the cancelled check fee. After another 6 phone calls and a trip to my local branch I was promised that the $19 would be credited to my account. Weeks passed and I never received the $19. I tried calling the person that I dealt with and she was never there and her answering machine was always full. It is difficult for me to go back into the bank because I always have my two little munchkins when the bank is open and I don't want to drag them in there and deal with this issue. After many many phone calls, I decided it simply wasn't worth my time to try and get my $19 back.
My second issue occured today, which is why I am venting about it. I went to an ATM to deposit a check. The machine kept trying to take the check but it wasn't pulling it in correctly and it decided to spit out the check. But before I could have a chance to grab it, it went flying through the air and landed on the ground. Since i was parked close to the ATM (so I could reach those dang buttons), I could not open my door enough to reach down and pick up the check off the ground. I tried to contort my body in several different ways to try and picked up the check but it just wasn't happening. I looked around the car to see if I had any tools to assist me in picking this check up off the ground, but alas, there was nothing. As I'm trying not to curse up a storm (with two kids in the car)I i backed the car up, pulled a little to the right, and was able to open the door and grab the check off of the ground (luckily there wasn't anyone behind me). And yes, i did try to deposit the check through the ATM again(I'm a glutton for punishment) but this time it worked. My check was deposited. I on the other hand, was one VERY ANGRY person. I sent BofA a very nasty e-mail when I got home. I'm sure I won't hear back from them, but as I stated in the beginning, sometimes it just makes you feel better to write things down!
