Update on the Surgery

I just got home from the hospital so I am posting an update. The surgery went well. The doctor was optimistic after the surgery. He said they removed the uterus and checked the lymph nodes and from his view he thinks they removed all of the cancer. They are sending it to the lab for further examination and we should know for sure next week. He also said he thinks there is a 99.9% chance that she will not need radiation. So this is really the best news we could have hoped for at this point. Hopefully the pathology report we get next week will confirm the good news. My mom was in good spirits before the surgery this morning. She insisted I show a picture of Allison and Daniel to everyone that was treating her - the anesthesiologist, the OR nurse, the surgeon. She wanted to let them know how important it was they took good care of her and rid her of the cancer. Then she was trying to plan out lunch for me, my dad, and my aunts and uncle at one of the local fine eating establishments. Of course, we weren't about to leave the hospital while she was in surgery. She then requested an ocean front room with a king bed. Turns out she got a private room with a view of a nice pond. She thinks we pulled some strings but she just got lucky. So her spirits were definitely high before the surgery. She was in a lot of pain afterwards, as expected but hopefully every day will get a little easier for her. My mom credits her gynecologist for saving her life. She just happened to notice her uterus was thicker than normal and ordered a sonogram. If she had not done that, we might have found out too late because my mom had no symptoms of being sick. Thank you for all your prayers and keeping her in your thoughts. The support of friends and family is what helps us get through the tough times like this.
