After our quick visit to Mickey's hometown, we set out on a nine-hour drive to New Orleans. Amazingly the kids were very good in the car, They both managed to fall asleep for a couple of hours which helped. We spent the week at Aunt Leslie's house (thank you Leslie!). Last year Allison stayed in our room but this year she was "brave" enough to sleep in Helen's room (Jeff's 11 year old cousin) for all five nights! We manged to fit a lot into four days - the Audubon Zoo, the French Quarter for beignets and shopping, dinner with Uncle Brad's best friend Becky and her husband Dirk (who announced to us they're going to be parents - YEAH!), Po-boys, red beans and rice. Okay, so we ate a lot. But it is New Orleans after all, how can you NOT eat a lot? Uncle Brad managed to take some great photos - he's quite the photographer. I felt like we had a professional with us the whole time. Here is a link to his pictures. My pictures pale in comparison but here are a few of the highlights:
All of us about to enjoy beignets at Cafe Du Monde:
Daniel and his bead collection
Silly Uncle Brad
Hanging out on a rock at the zoo
Maybe Allison is grumpy because Jeff got the first bite of Roman candy
The family and Nana (Jeff's mom)
Daniel wanting to grab a snake - thank goodness for glass!
Allison and Helen on Thanksgiving Day
Daniel enjoying the turkey and proud that he can use a fork
Fun with Aunt Leslie...and Elmo
All that fun wore Daniel out. Aunt Leslie, Aunt Lisette and Helen were all happy to watch him sleep
Of course I have a million more photos but these are a few of the highlights. We had a wonderful time spending Thanksgiving with Jeff's family and celebrating at Aunt Louise's newly rebuilt house post-Katrina. We miss everyone already!
