Allison's Journals

As I've mentioned before, one of Allison's favorite activites at school is working on her journal, which includes pictures of what she likes and a sentence to describe it (each one starts with "I like""). The first part of the year it took her a month or two to complete a journal. This past week she finished 2 whole journals (6 pages each). Her teachers say she could sit at the table all day and work on her journal if given the opportunity. I love looking through them and trying to figure out each picture. As I've mentioned, the teachers do not help the students spell any of the words, they have to sound them out. I really got a kick out of these most recent journals, especially when I asked her to explain each picture to me because there is just so much more detail than you would see at first glance. Below are the pages of her last two journals. If you want to play along, look at the picture and see if you can figure it out before you read my explanation below the picture.

"I like house". This one is self explanatory. I love to see how she thinks the words are spelled. If you sound it out, HWS does sound like house.

"I like playground". The swing is all the way on the right and the slide is next to it. I think she gave up on trying to spell playground after the first couple letters. That is a tough one!

"I like Daniel" This is daniel sleeping in his crib.

"I like hearts" . I asked Allison what the green thing on the lower right hand corner was supposed to be and she said "I don't know. I was practicing how to make an astronaut." Interesting...

"I like Elmo" At first I thought she was trying to write I like mommy, but then she explained to me that this one was for Daniel, because Daniel loves Elmo and that is how he pronounces it "Mo". She said this is all of us watching Elmo on tv.

"I like earth." Again, love the phonics! I also found the colors interesting. She really picked up (from somewhere) that the earth is green and blue.

"I like Allison" Good to know she likes herself.

This was my favorite. I cracked up when I saw it and I was actually able to figure it out without having to ask her. "I like Wii" And no, we do not have one but it seems everyone we know does, including my parents. Her favorite game is bowling. That's her on the left hand side with her arm up ready to bowl. You can see the pins on the tv. I'm sitting on a chair and my mom is sitting on the couch. The door goes to my parents bedroom and the yellow part is my parent's kitchen table. The squiggly "S" at the top was just for decoration (all this according to Allison).

"I like bath." This is Allison and Daniel in the bathtub and I (according to Allison) am "sitting on the potty washing us"(which is next to the bath tub). The circles are the bubbles in the bath. The objects on the right side of the picture are the sink and stepstool.

"I like princesses" (of course!)

"I like beach"

And lastly, we have my second favorite "I like mommy" Don't I look so peaceful? Basking in the sunshine!

I'm sure there will be more journal posts to come. If I ever lose the originals, at least I will have a copy of her pictures in my published blog book!
