I thought we had escaped it with the second one. Apparently not. I'm talking about separation anxiety. Allison's started around 7 months old. She wouldn't let anyone but myself hold her. This lasted for about 8 months - it was a very tiring 8 months for me. Then Jeff's mom came and lived with us after Hurricane Katrina and Allison learned to warm up to others. She made great strides during those 4 1/2 months that my mother-in-law stayed with us. And for those of you that know her, at age 2 1/2 she came out of her shell - BIG TIME. I can't go anywhere without her trying to have a conversation with anyone and everyone we see. This is both good and bad but I'm thankful that she is so friendly to others. And then there's Daniel. Age seven months came and went and he had no problem letting others hold him and play with him. I thought we were in the clear. Apparently not. It started a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure if it's related or not but it seems to have developed during and after being miserably sick for a week. He just wants his "mama", although sometimes "dada" will do too. Not sure I'm ready for another 8 months of separation anxiety...or...perhaps...longer...ugh.

I feel your pain. I have the same problem with Max, which is how a 7 year old, 115 pound German shepherd managed to open a hotel room door and wander a hallway for several hours trying to find "daddy". Fortunately, your current clinger can't turn a doorknob. Yet.
And look on the bright side. In about 14 or so years, you'll be wishing, begging and pleading for him to be by your side again.
