Jeff is from New Orleans and he often craves the food from that he can't get anywhere else - po boys, crawfish, and well, crawfish...Every time we try to go somewhere that claims to have "New Orleans" style food Jeff usually walks away disappointed. But I refuse to give up. I read about a new restaurant opening in the area called Bayou that claimed to have crawfish - boiled New Orleans style. So yesterday we made the 40 minute drive north to check the place out. We got there, went to the door, and tried to open it, but alas, it was locked. For whatever reason, they were not open. Not sure if they were just closed for lunch or if their opening was delayed. Maybe that was a sign. We ended up driving around the area - Jupiter, which I had never been to before. We drove along the ocean and saw all of the beautiful mansions that we will probably never be able to afford (although Jeff would like to think otherwise, which is fine with me - something to strive for right?). We wondered which one was Tiger Wood's house - they all looked pretty nice - we'd be content to live in one of the beach cabana's - those mansion are too big anyway. Anyway, after driving around the area, we realized we still hadn't eaten lunch (since out original choice of restaurant didn't work out). I checked the GPS to see what was nearby and just randomly picked out a restaurant. We ended up at a place called The Flashbeach Grille. It was a quaint little place on the side of the road and it turned out to be a really neat restaurant. It's owned by a husband and wife who started out with a catering business and opened up the restaurant about 3 years ago. Sometimes you find the best restaurants when you randomly end up somewhere and that's what happened. The neatest part was the presentation of the food. I wish I had better pictures but i was focusing on enjoying the meal, not taking pictures. We started out with some conch fritters which were quite yummy, then I just had a Ceasar salad (which was really good) but Jeff had a blackened Mahi Mahi with veggies and rice. The kids weren't too adventurous. Allison just wanted a hamburger but my favorite part of their meal was what they served the ketchup in:
The waitress/owner said she picked them up at TJ Maxx - who'd of thunk!
Here's a picture of Jeff's meal:And here's us enjoying the restaurant:
After lunch we decided to go check out the Jupiter Lighthouse. I would put up a picture but I don't have one. You have to be 4 feet tall in order to tour the lighthouse and they don't let you walk up close to it unless you pay for the tour. Kinda lame, but we saw it from a distance. Oh well, maybe we'll go back in about 7 years when both kids are tall enough.
Today Allison and I spent the morning/early afternoon together. Since her birthday is on Friday, I thought I would treat her to a pedicure. This was second pedicure. She enjoyed it of course but was quite inquisitive. I think she drove the lady nuts with all her questions, and Allison couldn't really understand what the woman was saying due to her thick accent. We had a good time though and went to lunch afterwards. Then we went to buy her school supplies. Yes, the time has come. It might be a little early but we're going away next week for ten days and I'm not one to leave things for the last minute - school starts Aug 18th after all. We managed to find almost everything on the list so she is pretty much set. I've also already bought her uniforms (yes, she's going to public school but they are pretty strict about what they can wear) I think the first day of school will be here before we know it. All in all, it was a pretty fun weekend. We even managed to go for a swim in the pool this afternoon!
