So I've decided to re-do Daniel's room. He's starting to outgrow his toddler bed which means we need to upgrade him to a big boy bed. I also don't care for the color of his room anymore because it's more of a baby blue which I think he's outgrown. Daniel loves anything to do with outer space so I decided to go with an outer space theme. He was in need of a new fan and Home Depot has the perfect outer space themed fan:

We bought it for him for his birthday and Jeff installed it this past weekend. My parents also bought him a light up moon that hangs on the wall and can display the different phases (it even has a remote!). As for the furniture, We've been searching for a few weeks now but haven't had much luck. The problem is that his room is quite small (maybe 9' x9' or so) - that and the fact that Jeff and I can't seem to agree on a style or color. I would like a bed with perhaps a dark wood or navy blue which ideally would have drawers under it that we could use as storage or for clothes (which is great for a small room). We've been to most of the furniture stores in our area and looked on-line. I narrowed it down to these two choices. The first one is from El Dorado Furniture, the second one is from Pottery Barn Kids (and would be navy blue):

Jeff, on the other hand, really wants to get Daniel a "cool" bed - more specifically a fun bunk bed or loft bed. I, on the other hand, am a bit nervous about a bed that's more than 4 feet off the ground. Yes, when I was a kid I totally wanted a bunk bed (doesn't every kid) - more specifically the one from This End Up (remember that store??). Never did get that bunk bed. Now I find myself on the other end of things. Although Jeff seems to want it more than Daniel. Yes, Mr. Safety himself is willing to buy a bunk bed even after we were in the store and Daniel proceeded to climb up the stairs (yes, they make them with stairs these days, no more ladders) get on the top bunk and jump up and down. It nearly gave both of us a heart attack but he seems to think he can somehow create a bunk bed that is injury proof. We decided to do more on-line searches to see if we could find anything. It made me realize that Jeff is out of control. This is what he came up with:

What?? Then he sent me this:

Kind of cool but we don't even have a wall to accommodate such a large piece. Next came this:

Once again, kind of cool but let's come back to earth here (no space theme pun intended). Again, no space for such a creation. Then he sent me this, which I kind of like the design but I think the wood and details are pretty ugly. Not to mention the fact that it was listed at $2,000 (What?!)

Then things really got out of control when he suggested this final one:

Yes, it does fit into the whole "space" theme but it won't fit into the damn room!! I couldn't help but laugh. After an exhaustive search, Jeff decided he needs to take matters into his own hands. That's right, Mr. Engineer wants to design and build a (rocket ship?) bed for Daniel. At first I was completely opposed to the idea, especially since he admits that fine woodwork in not his thing. But I figured why not let him have fun with this and see what type of design he comes up with. So that's where we're at. Jeff is going to attempt to design and perhaps build (if I even let it get that far) a bed. This could either turn out to be the coolest (rocket ship!?) bed on the block (and most likely the only one) or Daniel might just be stuck in his toddler bed for the foreseeable future. So what do you think - go with the store bought bed or let the engineer have some fun??
