A BIG Step for Daniel

Every now and then my kids do something that totally shocks me. Last night Daniel did just that. He asked what tomorrow was so I told him it would be Tuesday. He said "So do I go to school tomorrow?" I said "If you want, it's still winter break but your school is open. Do you want to go to school?" To which he replied "yes!". I nearly fell off my chair. Here's a kid that started school in August and has cried pretty much every day at drop-off since then. I couldn't believe he was saying "yes" to go to school on a week when I was willing to keep him home (since Allison is home). Then I figured he would probably change his mind at some point in the next 14 hours before school. The next morning he woke up around 7:20 and called for me. I went in his room and asked if he still wanted to go to school and he said "yes" again. So we all got ready (he wanted the whole family to take him to school, except Riley of course) and drove him all of thirty seconds to his school. I wish it had been warmer because then I would have let him ride his new bike. We went in and went to his classroom. His teacher was very excited to see him and Daniel (although he wouldn't show it) was excited to see her too. He seemed a little nervous for a few moments when we had to leave but he didn't cry. I came home and checked on him (I can log-in and see him on the computer) and he was playing happily. If you told told me a couple months ago, heck, a couple weeks ago that Daniel was going to want to go to school over winter break I would have looked at you like you had two heads. I don't think I've blogged about it a ton but school has been a tough transition for him. Daniel is a mamma's boy and loves to be home with me. So apparently I'm either boring him to death at home or he actually misses everyone at school. I'm thinking a little bit of both. This is a HUGE step for my little guy and I am very proud of him. And Allison and I are enjoying some one-on-one time together playing some games she received over the holidays that Daniel is too young to play. The question is, will he want to go again tomorrow?
