30 Years Later...So Much Has Changed But Has It Really?

I was looking for a picture to show to Allison of when I was a kid and had about 30 stuffed animals in bed next to me. I was unable to locate this picture, but in my search, I came across some pictures that really made me smile. Not because of the picture itself, but what it represented. I was a very fortunate child because almost every year my parents took me to Disney World. If we had lived in Florida at the time it might not have been such a big deal but I grew up in Maryland, so the trip to Florida was a BIG DEAL. We would travel south every February to visit my grandparents who had a winter home in south Florida - ironically only about 25 minutes from where I live today. On the way to visit them, we had to drive somewhat close to Orlando, so of course we had to stop at Disney World. Well, during my picture search, I stumbled across several pictures from the many trips, but one of them really caught my eye:
My older sister Bonnie is on the left and I am on the right. I knew exactly which ride it was - Tomorrowland Transit Authority. Which I always referred to as the "People Mover". This was, and still is, my favorite ride. I know, it sounds lame. All you do is sit in a little square box and it takes you around Tomorrowland, through space mountain and Buzz Lightyear. The reason I think I like this ride so much is because it gives me a chance to relax and take it all in. I feel like i've escaped the crowds for a few minutes and it enables me to reminisce about the many trips I took to Disney World with my family while growing up. It was a long drive every year - at least 14 hrs - but oh how I looked forward to it. I remember my parents waking me up at 3am so we could get on the road and stop at Disney on the way to my grandparents. I hope my kids are able to have such fond memories of the time we spend there (minus the 14 hr drive since we live much closer). Which brings me to this picture: Here I am, thirty years later on the same ride, but this time with my children, going around Tomorrowland and taking it all in.

I think you enjoy it as much now if not more with your own kids. For a grandparent its great, so many memories.
