Enjoying a LIttle Mommy/Daughter Time

A couple weeks ago (okay, so I'm a little behind on my blogging) Allison had a half day of school, which happened to be a school day for Daniel as well. Unfortunately for Daniel, he had school all day but that gave me and Allison some one-on-one time which is hard to come by these days. When I picked Allison up from school, her teacher proceeded to tell me how Allison couldn't stop talking about how excited she was that her and I were going to spend the day together. We came home and Allison wanted to dress up for the special occasion. Then I let her pick where she wanted to go to lunch and she chose Ruby Tuesdays. Allison enjoyed some fried shrimp and apples while I got to indulge in their yummy mango iced tea and salad:
After lunch I decided to take her to a paint your own pottery place. I figured this would be a good thing to do since Daniel is a bit young for it and Allison loves anything to do with art. Upon entering the ceramic store we saw tons of different pieces of pottery to choose from. I helped to narrow it down by telling Allison she could pick any item under $20. Her choice kind of surprised me. I figured she would want something princess and girlie, but she ended up picking out a cute little doggie with a bone in it's mouth. Allison is not a big fan of dogs, even though we have one (and a cute one at that) but that's what she chose and I went with it. She got to pick out what colors she wanted and then she painted the dog. Since she had to put on four coats of paint (and we only had a limited amount of time), I asked her if she wanted my help. She said yes and I put my artistic skills (or lack thereof) to work. It's been quite a few years since I painted pottery. My sister and I used to love going to the pottery place with my grandmother. I think the last time I painted pottery was on a family trip to Cancun when I was maybe 14, so it's been quite awhile! To my surprise, I found myself thoroughly enjoying the process, as did Allison:
She was so happy with our finished product, she even gave him a name: Brownie.
A week later we went back to the store to pick up our newly fired and glazed doggie:
Now we're looking forward to our next mother/daughter day together. Any idea of where to go??
